Murals
The Dalles Mural Society
Founded in March 1993, The Dalles Mural Society was created with a powerful mission: to bring the region’s rich history to life through art. What began with 16 murals has now grown to 33, thanks in part to the 2022 Walldogs Northwest Muralfest. During this vibrant event, local volunteers, businesses, and residents teamed up with the Walldogs—a world-renowned group of muralists passionate about preserving the art of brush-to-brick painting—to transform the city into a living canvas.

These large-scale murals do more than beautify—they tell the epic stories of the people, places, and pivotal moments that shaped The Dalles and the surrounding region. From Native American heritage to the journey of Lewis and Clark, and from Oregon Trail pioneers to cultural milestones, each mural is a window into the past.
Many are enhanced with audio narration, allowing visitors to hear the stories as told by historians, tribal voices, and even the artists themselves. Whether you’re walking through downtown via the Union Street underpass or exploring the streets beyond, every mural offers a cultural and educational experience for all ages.
Come take a stroll, learn something new, and see history—boldly and beautifully—painted on the walls of The Dalles.
